About LBR / History

La Barroneña Ranch is a 16,000 acre brush country ranch located in Duval County Texas. The Ranch has fantastic hunting, two Par Three golf courses, a Chapel, and bunk style sleeping and dining accommodations for up to 17 guests.

La Barroneña Ranch was established in 1905 by John Mirza Bennett. Mr. Bennett was a cattle drover in the late 1800’s, driving cattle up the Chisholm Trail primarily for Captain Richard King and George Breckenridge. After many successful trips Mr. Bennett received a bonus from King and Breckenridge, which enabled him to purchase La Barroneña Ranch in Duval County TX and the Garcitas Ranch near Port Lavaca TX.

Both ranches are still owned and operated by direct descendants of John M. Bennett.
